Misbalance in the gut flora can enable certain bacteria and fungus to attack our body. Candida is a fungus in the shape of yeast which is present in our mouth and bowel in small amounts. However, when it overgrows, the Candida enters the blood stream and releases toxic metabolites in your organism. This can lead to numerous health problems, such as digestive problems, depression and even cancer.
How does excessive multiplication of Candida occur?
Healthy bacteria in your bowel usually maintain a normal level of Candida. However, several factors can lead to spreading of Candida, such as:
-Too much intake of carbohydrates and sugar (which feed the yeast)
-Too much intake of alcohol
-Bbirth control pills
-Stressful way of life
-Excessive use of antibiotics
Symptoms of the excessive growth of Candida:
When Candida starts to spread, there are numerous symptoms and health issues from the inside (ache and improper functioning of the organs) and from the outside (eczema and hives). Also, psychic problems can occur. The numerous symptoms are: Oversensitivity and allergies, asthma, athlete’s foot, rashes, symptoms similar to flu, cysts, digestion problems, problems with the ears and eyes, fatigue, swollen glands, hair loss, headaches, vertigo, hemorrhoids, diabetes, nervousness, problems with the genitalia ( female and male), fungus infections, joint ache, loss of appetite, dry mouth, nasal congestion, sinusitis, sleeping problems, sore throat, etc.
Why does excessive growth of Candida appear?
There are a lot of reasons for weakening of the immune system, but antibiotics are usually the main culprits since they destroy both the good and bad microorganisms in the digestive system. Since the Candida is resistant to antibiotics, there is a misbalance of microorganisms. Additionally, bad nutrition is also one of the main factors. In today’s standard nutrition there are not enough nutrients for maintaining a healthy immune system, since our diets are full of sugar, carbohydrates, trans fats, additives, hydrogenated fats, processed food, etc.
How to check whether you have problems with Candida?
The best home test is, in the morning, before you put anything in your mouth, to gather a bit of saliva and spit it in a glass filled with bottled water on a room temperature. Check the water each 15 minutes, during 1 hour. If you notice hairs that float from the saliva to the surface, stains in the form of clouds or saliva in a form of cloud on the bottom of the glass, you probably have Candida problems.
How to control Candida?
In order to solve the problem with overgrown Candida, you must do these five things simultaneously:
Eliminate all food that feeds Candida
Candida usually feeds with sugar, carbohydrates and gluten. Therefore, avoid milk products and all foods that contain sweeteners such as aspartames or saccharin. All fruits, besides lemon, are rich in sugar and you should lower their intake in the first stadium of these 5 steps. Also, avoid products such as ketchup, yogurt and oat flakes. People who are gluten intolerant are mostly prone to Candida problems. Gluten is a protein which is present in most cereals and cereal products i.e. bread and pastry.
Gluten feeds the Candida since it has a high glycemic index, similar to sugar. Also, gluten is a protein which is not easy to digest and which affects the proper absorption of minerals, due to which, the bowel cannot absorb important nutrients. Moreover, cereals often times contain mycotoxins (toxins produced by fungus) which repress the proper functioning of the immune system.
